Chapter 7

"Well... I suppose I could just let Edward Foster go. Then again, I could always rip his throat out and be done with it, Rice," Jeremy seethed through one end of the phone as he paced the room he was standing in.

Jeremy had concluded that the best option for stage two of their plan would be to use Edward Foster as bait to lure Ryan Rice out into the open. Jeremy held property outside of the city limits in Austin, Texas. He decided that his estate would be the only viable solution for a place to keep their kidnap victim while they tracked down the president of the Rice Ranching Conglomerate. Luckily, Jeremy still had his private number.

"You're a straightforward man, Ryan," Jeremy said over the phone. "I look forward to seeing you in the next four hours in San Marcos. And if I get any word that you've contacted David Santiago, the deal is off. Edward Foster dies and there will be no negotiations."

Jeremy quickly hung up the phone.

"What did he say?" Maya asked as she perched herself against the nearest wall and filed at her nails.

Jeremy growled at Maya. She could tell that he was still upset about what she did with Edward Foster. "Why do you want to know? So you can sleep with him, too?" Jeremy asked in a fierce tone.

"Here we go," Maya thought to herself. Jeremy was stubborn, pigheaded, and extremely prideful and when his ego was bruised, everyone knew about it. "Are you going to sulk around and be like that?" Maya asked him honestly.

"Don’t go concerning yourself with things that don’t matter," Jeremy hissed as he plopped down into his chair and cocked his leg up onto the desk. There was an assortment of blood bags that were scattered about and it was a supply that they would need to make last. We’ll talk about that after we’ve finished with Rice. I bet Edward over there would want to see me rip out the heart of his best friend. What do you think, Maya?"

Edward sat in a sturdy wooden chair with his legs bound together and his hands handcuffed. Usually, precautionary measures would dictate that his mouth be gagged, too. However, after a long and drawn-out disagreement on what to do with him, Maya and Jeremy eventually decided that binding Edward’s hands and legs would be enough.

"Honestly? I’m thinking that you’re a cocksucker," stated Maya with a shrug as she picked at her nails.

A loud laugh bellowed from the other side of the room and it garnered both Maya and Jeremy’s attention. Edward Foster was making it known that his amusement level was sky high and he seemed to not have a problem with that.

"Too bad she wasn’t a cocksucker, huh?" Edward said toward Jeremy. "Look at her lips, too. What kind of man wouldn’t want those wrapped around him?"

"Shut up!" Both Maya and Jeremy yelled simultaneously, answering Edward’s rhetorical question with aggravation lacing their words.

A few moments of silence passed by and Maya began to pace the floor.
